'Spirit of America' Book Auction

There's been a very generous response to our original art auction so far, and we're very grateful to all who are participating. We decided to offer another lot: a signed copy of our book, Black & White World. The rules are the same: The highest bidder in the comments section for this post -- by Wednesday 2:00pm CST -- will receive a signed book. After the auction ends, the winning bid amount must be donated to Spirit of America via Liberty Alliance. There's no minimum opening bid. Bidding is open to everyone.

UPDATE -- LOT INCREASE!: As with our original art auction below (see Update III), we are amazed at the generous response from bidders. As a token of our appreciation, we're adding the following item to this lot:

+ One "Axis of Evil" T-shirt (Size L)

This auction ends today at 2:00pm CST.

BIDDING IS CLOSED FOR THIS ITEM.

Congratulations to PJ!

$50

Okay, I realize I won't win this, but the white guy running The Black Republican can't pass up the opportunity to bid on a signed copy of "Black & White World". It's just too ironic an "editorial comment" to pass up.

I guess I'd better get my bid of $100 in before it's too late.

Posted by: Tomorrowist at April 27, 2004 09:05 AM

I bid $150.

Dang you Jake!

Hmm...how about making it a highest bid to Spirit of America, period, without regard to faction?

Posted by: Wind Rider at April 27, 2004 11:17 AM

Wind Rider... That's ultimately what will happen. The faction merely gets credit for raising the donation, but Spirit of America gets all of the actual donations.

Or have I misunderstand your suggestion?

Posted by: Forkum at April 27, 2004 11:24 AM

Let's get jumping...$350...

Posted by: PJ at April 27, 2004 01:37 PM

Ouch, that hurts.

Posted by: Easycure at April 27, 2004 01:48 PM

Know it goes to SOA, but the opening pitch only mentions the Liberty crowd...I'll be happy to help spread the word that the other groups may bis (without those Liberty folks getting the credit! HA! Long live the Victory Coalition!)

Posted by: Wind Rider at April 27, 2004 02:57 PM

Keep on'a jumping, PJ... ;-) I've already made my donation (through the Alliance, since I started here), so I'm tapped out and unable to reverse-eBay you. Noticed you're up for the Chris Muir cartoon as well, although through another... erm... *cough* Coalition. Not that I can blame you; had I not started by bidding on the beauty of C&F, I likely would have followed Michele. Or BlackFive (although the leaders don't seem to need the help).

One thing I HAVE decided... I get hit up for worthwhile charities all the time, so many years ago I decided to give all my charitable contributions to ONE outfit, eschewing all other requests. Now, since donating for radio equipment (and Frisbees earlier this year), they're going to have to settle for half, as Spirit of America will be getting funding from me so long as their worthwhile work is needed.

Posted by: hindmost at April 27, 2004 03:56 PM

Wind Rider ... Ah-ha! So your inquiry was nothing but the wile of a VC interloper! :-)

Actually, there a lot of great items being offered by members of all three blogger groups, so I hope no one is taking the "alliances" too seriously. Here are a couple of good round-ups of the "enemy" blogs: Fighting Fusileers and Victory Coalition. And be sure to check out the latest offerings of our very own Liberty Alliance.

Posted by: Forkum at April 27, 2004 04:18 PM

I must confess that I have friends in all three coalitions...So I figured anyone has something cool - I'm game, especially since it all goes to the same place...

I can't believe I'm still holding this one -of course, some rat-bast...sniper is probably holding in the wings...

Way too much fun!

Posted by: PJ at April 27, 2004 04:25 PM

I applaud everyone for their efforts. These things are what gives charity a good name. Let us hope the people who collect the money spend it wisely......

NOTICE TO BIDDERS: We've added an item to this lot. Read the Update for details.

Posted by: Forkum at April 28, 2004 12:30 AM

I see PJ's up to $350... my word. That's SO generous. Or so it seems.

Although as I think about it it's quite a bargain, for it will one day be worth TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT LEAST, given the incredible future Cox & Forkum will have once they hit big-time syndication!

Posted by: Dean Esmay at April 28, 2004 04:22 AM

I don't have enough to compete with you guys, but I will donate $100. That's as far as I can go.

Posted by: larry at April 28, 2004 08:21 AM

Added t-shirt? Wooot! Of course, I can already see the lovely Miss Penny wearing that for a nightie...maybe we could make it a small?*grins*

Posted by: PJ at April 28, 2004 08:23 AM

PJ ... Sorry about the size, but a Large is all that I have.

Posted by: Forkum at April 28, 2004 09:15 AM

Larry ... Thanks very much for the donation. And thanks to everyone who has made a donation but is not bidding.

Posted by: Forkum at April 28, 2004 09:18 AM

I guess I will have to wash it in really hot water..."Really Babe, that is what they sent me...and, no it isn't too short"...LOL

Posted by: PJ at April 28, 2004 10:52 AM

PJ ... I was going to jokingly suggest something like that, but it turns out the shirt is "100% Preshrunk Cotton"!

Posted by: Forkum at April 28, 2004 11:12 AM

"PJ ... I was going to jokingly suggest something like that, but it turns out the shirt is "100% Preshrunk Cotton"!"

He could always point out that it's actually made for two...

Excellent suggestions from all...

Posted by: PJ at April 28, 2004 12:48 PM

BIDDING IS CLOSED FOR THIS ITEM.

Thank you very much, PJ. I hope you enjoy the book as much as you do the "nightie." Okay, maybe not that much. I'll be contacting you by e-mail for final instructions.

Thanks to everyone who has bid on this our book. As I said at the end of the art auction, all of you deserve credit for your willingness to support the Marines. There's still time to participate in the challenge, and I'm sure Spirit of America will be accepting donations long after that.

Allen & John,

Thanks for a great offering! Donation has been made...

Forkum,

You're welcome. I'm happy to do what I can.
